“For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father’s family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?”-Esther 4:14

The Book of Esther reads like the screenplay of a Hollywood drama with over-the-top partying, huge egos, humble heroes, royal-level corruption, murderous plots, revenge and acts of bravery.  And while God Himself is never directly mentioned in the book of Esther, it is evident that He is ever-present behind the scenes, orchestrating everything with His impeccable timing.

Esther was an eligible maiden at the precise time an opportunity for a new queen to be crowned arose. Mordecai was the city gates at just the right time to overhear the plots to kill the king.  And in the most satisfying, almost-comical example of irony, Haman’s plan to get revenge on Mordecai coincided exactly with the moment that the king planned to honor Mordecai.

But perhaps the most remarkable realization about God’s perfect timing is how it somehow factors in a requirement for us to step up and act at the right opportunity. Esther needed to boldly approach the king and confront him about his leadership choices in order to keep Haman from following through with his plot to kill all the Jews.  And even though it took her multiple days to work up the courage to do so, God’s plan seemed to line-up perfectly once she did.

Are we holding up God’s timing?  Is there a step that God is calling us to take so that His perfect plan can continue?  Let’s pray today for the boldness to act in faith as God calls us each day so we can keep up with His timing.
